Will Your Relationship Last Longer Past the Cuffing Season?

Cuffing Season or a Real Relationship?

Fall isn’t only the beginning of apple picking and all things pumpkin spice. It’s also the time when relationships begin, otherwise known as the start of cuffing season. People start relationships for the holidays to avoid being single during this season. A cuffing relationship ends soon after the holidays are over. How do we know if the relationships that we get into in the Fall are actually for real? There are eight ways to find out if your relationship is going to last longer than the cuffing season. And how to keep it going – if you can see it making it through the cuffing season.

Signs You’re in a Cuffing Relationship

1.  You’ve Made No Plans for After the Holidays

Is the only thing you and your partner are planning are for the holidays and nothing afterwards? Be wary that they might not see a future with you. Test it. The next time you’re with your significant other, mention plans for after the holidays. See how the conversation goes.

Are they are going out of their way to not make any hard commitments? That might be a sign to have a conversation about where you both see your relationship going. Ask about the plans for a fun New Year’s Eve trip. Also, bringing up post-January schedules could be the perfect conversation starter.

2.  All Your or Their Friends Are Also in Relationships

Let’s be real, no one wants to be a third wheel doing all the fun Fall and Winter activities. Are all your friends and your partner’s friends in relationships? This can be a big sign that your relationship is only for cuffing season. Do you and your partner usually do things with other couples? This could be a sign that you or your partner only wants the relationship for the timing of it.

Suggest doing something with only the two of you. Spending quality alone time with that person will help you to get to really get to know them. This lets you find out if you see that relationship going any further past cuffing season. One on one time might be the wakeup call you didn’t know you needed. You can decide if you want to get out of a relationship that isn’t going to last.

3.  It’s Convenient

One of the main components of being in a cuffing relationship is the convenience of it. Do you feel as if you’ve somewhat settled for being in a relationship with them because you don’t want to be alone? This is a sign that you may be in a cuffing relationship and nothing more.

Do you feel like you’re only relying on your partner to avoid being along during the holidays? Are you ignoring the signs that you’re not compatible? If you feel you don’t want to think about it until after the holidays – that’s a sign that you’re in a cuffing relationship. Do both of you a favor by taking the time to look at your motivations behind the relationship. This will save you both time, money, and possible heartache for both of you.

4. Make a List of Their Attributes

If you’re still unsure this relationship can actually be something, make a list. Making a list of all your partner’s attributes will help you decipher what you truly like about that person.

List their best qualities; the things that surprise you the most about them; and the things you don’t like so much.

Do they have less positive then negatives?

IF you find more negatives than positives, it may be time for you to consider moving on.

How to Know If You’re in a Real Relationship

1. They’re Your Best Friend

There’s nothing like being with someone who you consider to be your best friend. At the end of the day, you’ll know if you’re in a real relationship if you consider your partner your best bud. You never get tired of hanging out with them. You have fun when you’re doing nothing. You enjoy laughing together even over the little things. You feel that spark when you’re intimate.

If you have these – you know you’re in something special. The next time you’re with them, take a moment to ask yourself if they are the person you feel most yourself around. This is a tell-tale sign that you’re in a relationship with someone who you feel is very special.

2.  You Make Plans for the Future

A sure way to know that your relationship is something is if the both of you are planning for your future together. Do you both regularly talk about future events? Examples could be- living together, getting a dog or getting married. These are signs pointing you both see a future with one another.

If you haven’t been discussing major future plans in your relationship yet, don’t let this worry you. You may have missed the more subtle signs. Are they mentioning they’d like you to meet their parents? They want to attend a concert with you a few months down the road. Whatever the plans may be, anything scheduled past the holidays is a positive sign.

3.  You’re Not Afraid to Be Yourself

You can relax and simply be yourself. Your partner accepts and appreciates, or accepts, all your good points and quirks. You can make a mistake and not threaten the relationship. That’s a tell-tale sign that you and your partner are more than just a cuffing relationship.

4.  You Prioritize Your Relationship

A large part of a serious relationship is emotional investment. Do you both feel the relationship is valuable and you make your relationship a priority?

Do you make time for each other? Do you invest your time with them and in your relationship? If yes, you know that your relationship is for real. Making your relationship a priority lets you know; this isn’t a cuffing relationship.

Keep Up with Your Appearance

Has it been a while since you’ve been out in the dating game? It might be possible that you need to update your dating wardrobe and look. With the cold weather here, it’s best to find a couple outerwear jackets that make you feel confident but also warm. If it’s warm enough, dare to buy a couple of fall inspired dresses with your favorite pair of high-knee boots or your favorite pair of low-cut booties.

If you feel like your closet is in tip top shape but your makeup or hair could use a spruce, make the effort in revamping it. To find the best kind of makeup and inspiration, scroll through Sephora’s Pinterest page for the latest trends that makes you feel dating ready! As for hair, there’s nothing that can help make you shine like a bright new hair color. Don’t Rush into Anything

You may feel the pressure to find “the one” before the holidays begin but just ignore it. There’s no clock running out. You can’t rush finding someone for before the holidays. Because before you know it, you’ll find yourself in a cuffing relationship. You’ll be with someone who may not be the one for you.

There’s nothing wrong with dating casually, even during cuffing season. But before you get out on the dating scene, make sure you know exactly what you’re looking for in a partner. That way, you’ll be able to distinguish with everyone you meet if you actually see potential with them or not.
